I would like to narrate an incident of indiscipline that happened in my work area . The incident goes back to2015 , I used be Product manager electrical machines . I was told that the previous day in the B-shift one worker , M ,  has slapped shift supervisor R. I had worked as an incharge in that block and new both of them to some extent. I could get the information from different sources and came to learn about the incident.

- The worker  ,M , came late 

-The supervisor , R , asked for the reason

- The worker ,M , slapped the supervisor ,R.

There were many witnesses . But the worker ,M, being an active member of one of the leading unions , no body was coming foreword. I knew , so did not force any body . 

I talked to both worker ,M, and supervisor ,R . But as expected , the worker was in denial mode. 

I talked to the union leader also and he was also not accepting. Then ,I told him very clearly that I know this incident has happened and is not acceptable. He smiled and accepted but he also stated that there is no witness on record. I told him that action will be taken . His only request was that in case you transfer , please transfer both. I accepted.

I transferred both of them . The logic .

- It would have been difficult for the supervisor, R ,  to work in the work area where he has been slapped by a subordinate . 

- Secondly he was in that area for too long a period and for his growth needed a change .

I transferred him toa work Centre which was more valuable , important and offered more incentives 

The worker ,M , was transferred to an exactly opposite area , lesser incentive , more noise pollution , no importance . His leadership also got diminished because he was an outsider there and already there was local leadership.

He , M, was very upset and tried to put pressure on me through different high level officials . 

His wife also called me and complained about sudden reduction in take home money .

Once during my visit to shop floor , where worker ,M, was working , he tried to hit me with some thing out of frustration . 

Time went by , I got transferred to corporate office . After a lapse of almost 8 years , I met worker ,M, in a function. It was quite crowdy and I did not see him. But may be he spotted  . He came too me and expressed his respects as you normally do for your seniors . I also enquired about him , his family etc. In the end ,I asked him where are you working now? He smiled and said ," jahan aap ne choda that Sir - Sir where you posted me last." 

I was comparing his reaction of eight years back with today's rection , may be in his heart he knew he was wrong . Looked to me a changed ,calm and better person .

So my advice would be do not be afraid , take action but be impartial and genuine , even the sufferer will accept .
